{ Traveling with a Toddler }

I met my friend Jen for coffee the other day and she asked me, do you think it will be harder to fly with Brody now, or when he was a baby? I answered now, having NO CLUE what I was in for that following weekend. Brody has flown a lot, so going into our flight I thought I was prepared. I have flown with Brody when he was 3 months, 5 months, 8 months and then 11 months. But now Brody is 17 months, and it's a different ball game. He is on the move, and VERY active.

We were flying to Arizona to see my parents. So I was prepared. I packed his "backpack" full of his favorites. Books, Toys, stuffed animals. And I packed his diaper bag full of his favorite snacks, binkies , sippy cups, bottle and of course his favorite bed time stuffed animals buffalo and elephant.

I had everything.

I was prepared.

Until we actually were 30,000 feet in the air. You know that look you get on planes with a little one... the "ohhhh great , a baby" look. You either get that, or giddy parents or grandparents reminiscing about their little ones. Now on this 737 flight it had the two rows of three. And we did not buy Brody a seat. We didn't plan to fly at a special time, we just took whatever flight was the most affordable. Luckily both of our flights were conveniently during Brody's nap and bed time. Perfect! Or so I thought...

So here are my oh so wise tips for flying with a little one.

1. Never do it alone.  Just don't do it.

2. Keep food and toys separate. I kept all snacks and drinks in the diaper bag. Some of the favorite and maybe "special" snacks. I also kept his stuffed animals in there, the ones he sleeps with. So it was easier to grab. In a different bag, pack it full of favorite toys. Maybe even consider buying a new special toy just for the plane.

3. Take deep breathes. You are just fine, who cares about the 35 year old girl who hates kids glaring at you and rolling her eyes. Focus on your little one, and don't worry about apologizing to them. I made a joke to the people around us like "Lucky you, you get to sit by us...." I think it broke some of the tension.

4. If your child looses their marbles, pull out any and all stops. You are in survival mode here. Even if it's purchasing the dumb wifi and playing Mickey Mouse Club House until the cows come home!!

5. When you first get on the plane load snacks into the pocket and drinks, so its easier to grab. This is why you have the travel buddy. To grab anything you can't!

6. If you are flying around nap/ bed time bring things to make it comfier, blankets, sound machine app downloaded on your iPhone, binkies. Whatever! I brought a bag of 15 binkies. I am not joking. And he threw 7 of them.

7. Seattle's airport now has a kids playing area! Amazing! It was great to have him play before the flight. Im sure all major airports now have this.

8.Make sure you arrive early enough to give them a full and happy tummy.

9.. It doesn't matter how much you prepare.... you will never be prepared with a toddler

10. Maybe order a drink when you land :) and Enjoy your Vacation!

So what did I learn flying with a very active 17 month old??? Nothing. I learned that no matter how much I prepare and pack, you never know what curve balls these sneaky toddlers will throw your way. My amazing sleeper slept like an angel on the way there, but a nightmare screaming on the way home. I thought I was prepared. But I had some tools that helped me stay calm, prepared and over all I would say a successful flight!

Leaving Seattle . This is the bag I packed all his toys in!

30 Min into the flight! Out like a light bulb!!! Thank you lord!

On the way home, a different story.  Brody Screamed and cried about 2/3 of the flight.

He finally fell asleep 20 min before we started landing...go figure!

But this...is what made it worth it! We love the Arizona sun!

Good Luck:)

The Menia Family

I first met Jason when I was 14 or 15 when we both had the pleasure of working at Sambica. Now many years later, I had the pleasure to photograph him and his family. His mother was in town from Chicago and they celebrated with a photoshoot while exploring the city! Here are a few sneak peeks for Jason and Nicole!

{ 10 on 10 March 2014 }

I read on another photographers blog this idea called the 10 on 10.  Each Month on the 10th , you bring your camera with you a whole day, and post 10 pictures at the end. Capturing the true moments in life!

As a photographer we are focused on our careers, and with the convenince of cell phones, we often miss taking pictures of our own children. I love family shoots, but I am talking about the day to day. From the bed head after nap, to the messes while playing. Capturing your family in the true moments that make life amazing! The little things that you want to remember. So I decided to give it a shot. My husband would say I am not lacking in taking pictures, But I wanted to do this challenge, no cell phone pictures, no staged photos. Take my camera and capture my favorite model in his true form, sweat pants and all! I hope you enjoy my March 10 on 10!

It started out like most days in the Seattle- Farago House. For those of you who don't know, we are out in Seattle for 3 more months while Scott is finishing his Masters in Tax Law at the University of Washington. Then we will be heading back home to Missoula. We woke up, went for a run outside and  then started playing!

 Brody's new "Dog".
My mom gave this to me when I was in college as a joke because I wanted a dog so bad. Now its Brody's best friend, and he drags it every where with him. Including watching out the window for "Dada".

My Parents live on a small lake and one of our favorite things to do is go feed the ducks. Well, I feed the ducks and Brody feeds himself, and then the ducks if they are so lucky.

Brody is the happiest baby on this planet, except for the 30 seconds it takes for me to get his milk ready at night. For some reason this tantrum always happens, and I can't help but laugh. Every night its the same routine, so he should know that his milk is coming. The second I hand it to him those tears turn off and my goof ball is back, see picture below. Taken 10 minutes apart ! Oh Brody!

Yes our binkie loving man!

Enjoy a glimpse into my day to day!

I have been wanting to make this blog post for awhile now. I work with a lot of mommys to be and new moms, and I happen to be a product junkie! I love baby products! When I was pregnant I talked to every mom about what bottles were the best, what stroller is best and what sleep aids they used! When Brody was born, I tried them all! I still get asked today some of my favorite products, so I am HAPPY to show you my favorite things :)

First my Favorite!

The Wombie.
 Get it. Now!
This was recommended to me by another Mommy, Jessica Hudson. She SWORE by the wombie & white noise for her two amazing sleepers. So of course, if it worked for her, I had to try it. We bought the wombie and by 1 week old Brody was sleeping 8 hours straight a night. I had to wake him up to feed him. For moms of little ones, the wombie is the best sleep sack out there because it re-creates your womb. They can move their arms and wiggle, while feeling secure and wrapped. Think less straight jacket, more comfort. It can be bought at
www.wombie.com,  amazon.com, diapers.com
$29

This was Brody's first night in the wombie! As you can see ! He is out! He LOVED his arms by his face, and the wombie allowed him to do that!

 White noise machine!

I swear by this. I heard the other day that inside the womb your baby hears at 100 decibels . That is louder than your hair dryer. They hear everything from you talking, swallowing and digesting! So the whole "shhhhh babies are sleeping" comment, should be gone. Babies can sleep in noise, they are used to it. But they are used to white noise! So lets re-create it for them. With the combo of a great sleep routine, Brody is sleeping 14 hours in his crib every night. I have one amazing sleeper, but I must say we used the right tools to get there. It wasn't easy but it paid off!  We use the my baby sound machine from Target.

The Bob.
Simply, it's the best. Not much to say about it except if you like to go for runs with your baby its the best! It also stores so much!

Dr. Brown Bottles
This was reccomened to me by one of my best friends Tessa. She was a long time nanny and swore by these. They were amazing! Honestly they are. The nipple size increases with age, and the flow of the bottle is great for preventing air , which leads to gas bubbles and grumpy babies! They have a few parts so you have to clean them well, but the work of cleaning is worth it in the long run!

3 pack at target $18.99

Along with the dr. brown bottles get the dr. brown bottle warmer and sterilizer! SERIOUSLY! so easy and so great!

Both from Target 32$ for the warmer and $16 for the sterilizer!

Shae Moisture Lotion & Shampoo

Shae Moisture lotion and shampoo was recommend to me by my long time friend and mommy friend Britnie Long. She said it was the best smelling lotion out there. It smells AMAZING! Seriously you will want it for yourself! It is organic and delicious!  You can pick it up at Target. The best part is it lasts forever!

Honest Diapers
I have been allergic to perfumes in laundry detergents for as long as I can remember. So when I was pregnant I was curious if Brody would too. Of course I washed all his clothes in Dreft, but around 9 months old Brody was getting yeast infections and diaper rashes galore!

This was another recommendation by Britnie Long. Honest Diapers are AMAZING! Not only are they adorable, but a bundle can last way longer than a month. Usually it last me 1 1/2 months sometimes 2. It is $70.95 for the "bundle" but it is worth every penny. No more yeast infections or diaper rash! Honest is a great non-toxic diaper company! And they are adorable!

The bundle comes with 6 different diapers, and 4 packs of wipes!
Let me know if you are interested, I can invite you!

The LollaCup
My mom and I love the show shark tank! And we are guilty of buying the products right as we watch! One of the great products from Shark Tank is the Lollacup! It is amazing. Brody loves to tip back his sippy while he drinks, and the cups with the straw never sucked up the water. This straw is weighted, so he always can get water. Plus it is so easy for him to hold! Honestly, how adorable!

Summer Video Camera Monitor
$219 at Target

We love our video monitor! Honestly LOVE it! It gives me such peace of mind to see Brody every night and know that he is safe and sound. The night vision is amazing, and the sound detection is great.    A video monitor is a must have!

Hanna Anderson Sleepers
I am obsessed with these jammies! They are the cutest thing on earth. My sister swore by them and of course now I do too. I think nothing hugs their amazing little bodies better. I have never bought a pair for full price. Costco gets shipments and check for local outlet stores. Or at the end of the season they have big sales. They originally cost $34 on their website. But check out costco and outlets!

please keep checking back for more products and other things I Love :)
